Yanco Japanese Collection

The Yanco Japanese Collection is a 49-piece melamine service line finished in a single warm sand tone — no white, no glaze contrast, one body color across every item, so a mixed table reads as one set. It is the broadest Asian-service line Yanco makes in melamine, and unusually for a melamine program it includes drinkware and a utensil: three tea cups and a soup spoon sit in the same finish as the plates. That makes it one of the few lines here that can cover a whole cover, from tea through noodles to the dipping dish, without borrowing a piece from another pattern.

What's in the 49-piece Japanese line

• Round plates — 6", 7", 8", 9", 10-1/2" and 12", plus separate 9" and 12" coupe plates and a 6" saucer
• Oval plates — 7-3/4" x 5-1/4", 8-3/4" x 6-1/4", 9-3/4" x 7-1/4" and 11-3/4" x 8-3/4"
• Sushi and rectangular plates — two 6-3/4" x 4-1/2" rectangles, a 10-1/4" x 4-1/4" rectangle, an 8" triangle plate, an 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" wave-edge rectangle and a 12" sushi boat
• Soup bowls — an eight-step ladder at 8, 12, 14, 18, 22, 36, 48 and 68 oz
• Curved noodle bowls — 20 oz, 22 oz and 42 oz, with a flared lip distinct from the straight-sided soup bowls
• Rice bowls — 14 oz and 22 oz
• Named bowls — the 8 oz Nanjing bowl and the 10 oz Jingdu bowl, plus a 5 oz small bowl and a 4-1/4" square bowl at 8 oz
• Sauce service — 3-1/4" and 3-3/4" round dishes, a 3-3/4" x 2-1/2" rectangle, a 4-1/8" wave dish, single and double divided dishes, a 10 oz sauce bowl and a 4-3/4" square side dish at 24 oz

Reading the bowl ladder

The eight soup bowls are the reason this line gets specified. They step in even increments through the range a noodle kitchen actually uses, so you can match the bowl to the portion instead of over-filling a small one or losing a portion in a large one. The JP-5085 (68 oz, 9-3/4") and JP-5075 (48 oz, 8-1/2") take a full noodle portion with broth; the JP-5070 (36 oz), JP-5065 (22 oz), JP-5060 (18 oz) and JP-5050 (14 oz) cover side soups and smaller servings, and the JP-3008 (8 oz) handles miso. Alongside them the curved noodle bowls — JP-5285 (42 oz), JP-5275 (22 oz) and JP-5265 (20 oz) — give the same capacities a flared profile that is easier to eat from with chopsticks.

Plates, sushi pieces and the tea program

Six round plate diameters from 6" to 12" cover a Japanese cover end to end, with the JP-1312 12" coupe as the entrée size and the JP-1006 6" for tsukemono and side portions. For sushi, the JP-8005 sushi boat (12") takes a sharing order, the JP-1508 triangle plate (8") gives a single-diner set a shape that is not a rectangle, and the JP-1609 wave-edge plate breaks up a run of flat rectangles on the pass. The condiment side is deep: alongside plain round dishes at 3-1/4" and 3-3/4", the JP-4031 double divided dish and JP-0001 divided sauce put soy and ginger on one piece. Tea is covered by the JP-9152 (6 oz), JP-9302 (8 oz) and JP-9304 (12 oz), with the JP-7001 soup spoon (5-1/2") finishing the noodle setting.
