A jara (also spelled jhara or jharna) is a traditional Indian kitchen tool used for frying, straining, and shaping snacks and sweets. It is an essential piece of equipment in every Indian restaurant kitchen, mithai shop, halwai setup, and namkeen production line. Our jara collection includes boondi jaras for making motichoor laddu and boondi raita, sev and namkeen jaras for frying sev, bhujia, ganthiya, and other Indian snacks, and stainless steel frying jara skimmers for draining fried items from hot oil.

Boondi and Motichoor Jaras

Our motichoor laddu jara is handmade from iron and aluminum, sourced from Seehor, UP, and comes in multiple hole sizes for different applications. Hole size #0 produces the finest boondi for motichoor laddu, #1 is for regular boondi laddu, #3 works for South Indian style boondi, and #4 makes larger boondi for dahi boondi. The smaller the number, the smaller the holes and the finer the boondi. Each jara has a 7-inch diameter plate with a 24-inch handle for comfortable use over a deep kadai.

Frying Jara Skimmers

For straining and lifting fried items out of hot oil, we carry stainless steel jara skimmers in 9.75-inch and 12-inch sizes. These are used daily in Indian restaurant kitchens for frying pakoras, samosas, bhatura, poori, and any other deep-fried items. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion and cleans easily, and the long handles keep your hands safely away from hot oil.

An Essential Tool for Any Indian Kitchen

No Indian restaurant, sweet shop, or namkeen business is complete without the right set of jaras. Whether you are making motichoor laddu for Diwali, frying boondi for raita, producing sev and bhujia for retail, or simply draining pakoras during daily service, the right jara makes the job faster, safer, and more consistent. To learn more about the different types of jaras and how to choose the right one, read our guide on why every Indian restaurant needs a jara.
