Yanco Yoto Collection

Yoto is Yanco's green melamine line: 33 pieces, every one of them described in its own product title as matte, which is the only Yanco melamine pattern here where the surface is specified item by item rather than implied. There is no second colorway. Green and matte are the line, and neither is left to the pattern name to imply. The range is weighted toward Asian service and display, with four footed platter families, four sushi plate sizes and a bowl set that starts at 3 oz and tops out at 50 oz.

The footed plates, and why there are two of everything at 9-1/2"

Seven of the 33 pieces stand on a foot — three ovals and four rectangles. A foot lifts the plate off the table, which is a presentation choice, but it also makes the piece easier to lift off a flat surface with one hand when the plate is already loaded. The ovals step up through YO-2112 (12"), YO-2114 (14-1/2") and YO-2116 (16-1/2"); the rectangles run YO-4011 (11" x 7-1/4"), YO-4012 (12" x 4"), YO-4013 (13-1/2" x 9-3/4") and YO-4015 (15-3/4" x 6"), all in cases of twelve.

The sushi plates catch people out: YO-3010 and YO-3009 are both 9-1/2" long but 3-3/4" and 6-3/4" wide respectively, so one is a single-row runner and the other takes two rows side by side. The YO-3006 (6-1/2") and YO-3011 (11") bracket them. All four carry a raised edge rather than a flat rim, which is what keeps soy from running off the end.

Bowls, pot plates and the sauce set

Ramen is covered by the YO-5009 (50 oz, 9") and YO-5008 (32 oz, 8"), with the YO-5006 (11 oz, 5-1/2") as a side portion. The YO-5005 miso bowl and YO-5004 rice bowl share the same 4-1/2" x 2" body at 7 oz, so a set meal sits level. The two pot plates with handle — YO-5010 (14 oz) and YO-5013 (21 oz) — are shallow handled dishes, useful where a hot dish is carried to the table and left there. Condiments step cleanly from the 3 oz single to the 5 oz double and 6 oz triple, and the YO-9302 spoon tea cup and YO-7001 spoon complete the cover.
