Yanco Green Band Collection

Green Band is Yanco's Recovery body with a narrow green stripe around the rim. Almost every one of its 34 shapes has a Recovery twin under the matching item number — the GB-32 fruit bowl, the GB-95 Jung bowl, the GB-24 nappie and the whole plate ladder line up with their RE- counterparts at the same sizes and capacities. That is the practical case for it: a kitchen already running plain white Recovery can add a banded service for a second dining room, a breakfast program or a private function without changing the shape of anything on the shelf.

What's in the Green Band line

• Plates — 5.5" bread, 6.625", 7.125", 8.375", 9", 9.75", 10.5" and 12".
• Platters — 7" x 4.5", 9.5" x 6.5", 10.5" x 7.5", 11.5" x 8.125", 12.5" x 9" and 13.5" x 9.5".
• Bowls — nappies at 10, 12.5 and 15 oz; Jung bowl at 9.5 oz; fruit bowls at 3.5 oz and 4.75"; grapefruit at 13 oz; bouillon at 7.25 oz; rim soup at 10 oz; pasta at 16 and 30 oz.
• Cups and mugs — tall cup 7 oz, stackable cup 7 oz, short cup, Chinese tea cup 4.5 oz, espresso cup 3.5 oz, two mugs at 7 and 8 oz, two saucers.

Why a band rather than a full color

The stripe sits on the rim, not on the well. Every plate and platter in the line keeps a plain white food surface, so plated color reads the same as it would on undecorated china while the table still shows a line of green. It is the oldest trick in American restaurant china and it has a practical side too: a banded rim makes a chipped or worn piece obvious across a room, so a service can be culled on sight rather than one plate at a time.

It is not the only way Yanco decorates a white body — the Brown Speckled collection puts a warm brown speckle across the whole surface instead of a line at the edge. A band keeps the well clean; a speckle does not.

Plates, platters and bowls

The plate ladder runs GB-5 (5.5"), GB-6 (6.625"), GB-7 (7.125"), GB-22 (8.375"), GB-8 (9"), GB-9 (9.75"), GB-16 (10.5") and GB-21 (12"). Platters step from the GB-33 (7" x 4.5") through the GB-34 (9.5" x 6.5"), GB-12 (10.5" x 7.5"), GB-13 (11.5" x 8.125") and GB-14 (12.5" x 9") to the GB-19 (13.5" x 9.5").

Bowl service covers the GB-3 Rim Soup Bowl (10 oz, 9"), three nappies — GB-18 (15 oz), GB-15 (12.5 oz) and GB-24 (10 oz) — plus the GB-95 Jung Bowl (9.5 oz), the shallow GB-10 Grapefruit Bowl (13 oz), the GB-32 Fruit Bowl (3.5 oz) and the GB-4 Bouillon Bowl (7.25 oz). Pasta comes in two diameters, the GB-105 (16 oz, 10.5") and GB-125 (30 oz, 12.75").

Cups, mugs and saucers

This is the part of the line that goes further than the plate range suggests. The GB-1 Tall Cup (7 oz) and the nesting GB-23 Stackable Cup (7 oz) hold the same volume in two heights, both on the GB-2 Saucer (6.125"). The GB-37 Short Cup is the wide, low profile. Espresso runs on the GB-35 (3.5 oz) with its matching GB-36 Saucer (4.25"). Two mugs, the GB-17 (7 oz, taller) and GB-38 (8 oz, wider), cover counter coffee, and the handleless GB-45 Chinese Tea Cup (4.5 oz) covers tea. Every cup and saucer in the line ships 36 to a case.
