Yanco Brown Speckled Collection

The Yanco Brown Speckled Collection is 19 pieces of American white china carrying a brown speckle band around the rim. The body underneath is the plain restaurant white you would expect; the speckle is a decorative treatment applied at the edge, which is why the pattern sits comfortably next to unbanded white china on the same shelf. It is the diner and breakfast-house look, and the piece mix reflects that — nappies, a grapefruit bowl, a bouillon, a tall cup and a mug all point at a morning menu.

The same blank, a different rim

Brown Speckled and the Yanco Green Band collection are built on the same American white body; what separates them is the rim treatment. Green Band lays down a single clean green stripe — a crisp, institutional line that suits cafeterias, clubs and hospital service. Brown Speckled scatters a warm brown fleck instead, which is softer and hides the small marks that come with heavy use better than a solid stripe does. If you already run one and need to expand, check the piece lists before assuming they match: the two lines do not carry identical shapes, and Green Band is the larger of the two at 34 items.

Bowls and breakfast service

Three nappies step through the mid range — the BR-24 (10 oz, 5.25"), BR-15 (12.5 oz, 5.5") and BR-18 (15 oz, 5.75"). They sit within half an inch of each other in diameter but differ by five ounces in capacity, so the choice is about depth, not footprint. Around them: the BR-3 rim soup bowl (10 oz, 9"), the BR-10 grapefruit bowl (13 oz, 6.5"), the BR-4 bouillon (7.25 oz, 4") and the BR-11 fruit bowl (4.75 oz, 4.625").

Plates, platters and beverage

Six round plates run BR-5 (5.5"), BR-6 (6.5"), BR-7 (7.25"), BR-8 (9"), BR-9 (9.5") and BR-16 (10.5"). Three platters cover shared and entrée service: BR-12 (9.5" x 7.5"), BR-13 (11.5" x 9.5") and BR-14 (13.25" x 10.25"). For the counter there are two drinking vessels rather than one: the BR-17 Ventura mug (7 oz), which is handled and takes no saucer, and the BR-1 tall cup (7 oz), which pairs with the BR-2 royal saucer (5.5"). Same capacity, two different services.

If the speckle is more texture than you want, the Green Band collection gives you the single stripe on the same white body, and the Mayor collection drops the band entirely for a plain super white narrow rim.
