Yanco Milestone Collection

Milestone is the largest melamine line Yanco makes — 166 items on this store, and the count is large because almost every shape is produced in six colors rather than one. Counting the product titles, the palette is white, ivory, green, yellow, orange red and blue. Twenty-six of the thirty models are stocked in all six, which is what makes Milestone workable as a color-coded program: a diet-coded ward, a school with a color per grade or a buffet with a color per station can run the same plate and bowl throughout and change only the color.

Two plate profiles, not one

Milestone is often described as a narrow-rim pattern. It is both. The narrow-rim rounds come in four sizes — 6.5", 7.25", 9" and 10.5" — for example the MS-106 in ivory and the MS-110 in green.

Alongside them sits a separate wide-rim round in six sizes: 5.5", 6.5", 7.5", 9", 10.5" and 12", running from the MS-005 in white up to the MS-012 in blue. Ten round plate sizes across the two profiles, each in six colors, is 60 plate items on its own. Decide which rim you want before you order — the two profiles look different on a tray and the 6.5", 9" and 10.5" diameters exist in both.

The rest of the ladder

• Oval platters at 9.5" x 7.25", 12" x 9" and 13.5" x 10.5" — see the MS-213 in ivory.
• Three-compartment plate, 10.25", in every color, including the MS-710 in blue.
• Bowls in eight capacities: 4.5 oz (MS-5044), 8 oz (MS-5608), 10 oz (MS-5510), 12 oz (MS-5712), 16 oz (MS-5716), 24 oz (MS-5807), plus pasta bowls at 13 oz (MS-5809) and 16 oz (MS-5811).
• Cups and beverage: bouillon cups at 7 oz (MS-303) and 8 oz (MS-313), a 7 oz MS-9018 mug and the 5.5" MS-9303 saucer, which fits the 303, 313, 5044 and 9018 pieces.
• Ramekins, catalogued under NC- numbers, in four colors only: 2 oz (NC-536) and 4 oz (NC-538). No white or yellow ramekin exists in this line.
• Two white-only bowls: the MS-504 at 10 oz and MS-505 at 14 oz. If you are building a colored program, these two will not match.

Ordering a color program

Two things decide how a multi-color order is built here. First, the four models that break the pattern: the 2 oz and 4 oz ramekins exist in ivory, blue, green and orange red but not white or yellow, and the MS-504 and MS-505 bowls exist in white alone. Everything else can be specified straight across all six. Second, the case packs step down with size in a way that is consistent enough to plan around. Round plates of 5.5", 6.5" and 7.5" ship 48 to a case; 9" and 10.5" ship 24; the 12" ships 12. The 9.5" oval platter ships 24 and both larger platters ship 12. Six colors of one 10.5" plate is therefore six cases of 24 — 144 plates — which is the smallest realistic unit of a fully coded program and worth pricing before you commit to the number of colors.
