Houston is a red-and-white melamine service: white where food sits, red on the outside. The color field on each of the 14 items reads White and Red, and the whole line is tagged two-tone. It is the shortest program on this page — four plates, three platters, five bowls, and a cup with its own saucer — which makes it a straightforward one-pattern fit-out rather than a catalog you build a program from.
Houston is Milestone tooling in two colors
Every model number in Houston has a twin in Yanco's Milestone line at the same dimensions: HS-106, HS-107, HS-109 and HS-110 match MS-106 through MS-110; HS-209, HS-212 and HS-213 match the Milestone oval platters; HS-303, HS-5044, HS-5510, HS-5712, HS-5809, HS-9018 and HS-9303 all have MS- equivalents. That is useful two ways. It means the shapes are proven at institutional volume, and it means you can extend a Houston table with Milestone pieces in a solid color when Houston does not carry the size you need — Milestone has a 12" wide-rim plate and a compartment plate that Houston does not.
The 14 pieces
Plates: HS-106 (6.5"), HS-107 (7.25"), HS-109 (9") and HS-110 (10.5"). Platters: HS-209 (9.5" x 7.25"), HS-212 (12" x 9") and HS-213 (13.5" x 10.5").
The bowls are picked for different jobs rather than laid out as a size ladder. The HS-5809 pasta bowl is wide and shallow at 9.25" across but only 13 oz, so a portion spreads out. The HS-5510 does the opposite — 10 oz packed into a 5.375" bowl 3" deep, which holds heat for chili and stew. In between, the HS-5712 (12 oz, 7.5") doubles as a salad bowl. Small work goes to the HS-5044 (4.5 oz) and the HS-303 bouillon cup (7 oz).
Beverage service is a proper pairing rather than a mug on its own: the HS-9018 cup (7 oz, 3" x 3") sits on the HS-9303 saucer (5.5"). Among the two-tone melamine lines we stock, Houston is the only one that carries both halves.
