Normandy occupies the plain end of Yanco's china range: American white porcelain, undecorated, sixteen pieces, and a narrow rim named in fourteen of the sixteen product titles. The rim is the design: a slim, shallow border, not the rimless coupe edge several other Yanco patterns use. A cup, a saucer, plates, platters and a fruit bowl are all present, so Normandy can set a table without help from another pattern.

Seven plate sizes, and stock numbers that are not sizes
The round ladder is tighter than a sixteen-piece line suggests. Three plates — 8 3/8", 9" and 9 1/2" — fall inside a span of just over an inch, which is a diner and family-restaurant habit: a full entree plate, a smaller entree plate and a side plate that all read alike stacked. The catch is the numbering. NR-5 is 5 1/2" and NR-6 is 6 1/2", so the number looks like it tracks the size, but NR-8 is a 9" plate, NR-9 is a 9 1/2", NR-22 is 8 3/8" and NR-16 is the 10 1/2". Order by stock number and check the stated diameter; reading the number as inches will get the wrong plate onto the truck.

Normandy is listed beside the other undecorated whites in the full Yanco range. Operators comparing plain china usually set it against ABCO, a much deeper undecorated white program at 98 items, or Siena, which answers the same white-plate brief with an embossed rim instead of a flat one.
