Yanco Denmark Collection

Denmark is light purple china under a matte glaze — the color is on every one of the 22 listings, not just the titles — and it is the geometric pattern in the Yanco china book. Square plates, rectangular plates and round plates all carry the same upright rim, and the bowls come square as well as round. Twenty-two items, with a cup, a mug and a saucer for the drink service.

Three geometries under one glaze

Most colored china lines pick a shape and stay with it. Denmark runs square, rectangular and round side by side at overlapping widths — a 10 1/4" square plate, a 10" x 5 1/2" rectangle and a 10" round are all in the book — so a room can change the silhouette course by course without changing the color on the table. The upright rim is common to all three, which is what keeps them reading as one pattern rather than three.

Two things to plan around. The 16" rectangular plate ships six to a case, the smallest case pack anywhere in this group of ten patterns, so budget it separately from the 36-count plates. And the square bowls climb steeply — 16, 23, 32 and 45 ounces across four inches of width — so the 9" and 10" pieces are shared-plate sizes, not individual portions.

Denmark is one of the matte colors in the full Yanco range. The nearest comparison on finish is Champs, a matte green with a deliberately irregular rim; on shape, Cowboy is the other pattern here carrying both squares and rectangles, in gray with a textured face.
