Shanghai is a 17-piece bone white china line that mixes geometry on purpose: the plates are square and rectangular, everything that holds liquid is round. Capacity tops out at 24 oz, so it is built for a plated menu rather than a bowl-led one.

The rectangles are the reason to buy it
Four of the five rectangular plates are almost exactly twice as long as they are wide: 9 1/2" x 4 1/2", 11 1/4" x 5 1/2", 13 1/2" x 6 1/2" and 15 1/2" x 7 1/2". That is a deliberate step, not a set of odd sizes: a tasting or shared-plate service can move up and down it with every course reading the same proportion. The exception is the 10" x 7", nearly square, which does entree duty. There are no round flat plates anywhere in the 17, so a conventional dinner plate has to come from another pattern.
