Yanco Green Gem Collection

Green Gem is a 27-item green ceramic pattern and the shortest of Yanco's single-color glazed lines. It uses the same rectangular plate ladder and bowl series as the black and blue patterns in this family, but it spends its item count differently: there are no bake plates, no sauce-dish trio and no cup and saucer. In their place it carries two ranges the others do not have — a square sheer bowl in three sizes and a rectangular bowl in three sizes. Read as a whole, this is a plating and small-course line rather than a full table service.

What's in the Green Gem line

• Rectangular plates — 10" x 5.875", 12" x 6.375", 13.5" x 4.75", 14.25" x 7.625" and 16" x 5.625".
• Oval plates — 8.25" x 5.5", 10.25" x 6.75", 12.25" x 8.25" and 14.5" x 9.5".
• Round plates — coupe at 9.125" and 10"; deep at 8" and 11.75".
• Square sheer bowls — 7.5", 9.5" and 11.5" at 16, 36 and 66 oz.
• Rectangular bowls — 3.75", 5.75" and 8.25" at 2, 10 and 20 oz.
• Round bowls — noodle at 32 oz, salad at 28 oz, salad/pasta at 30 oz, salad/soup at 18 oz, nappie at 14 oz, soup at 9 oz.
• Small — olive sauce dish at 2 oz, mug at 12 oz.

The sheer bowls

The three sheer bowls are why an operator picks this pattern over its siblings. They are square-mouthed with sloped walls, so the rim reads as a square while the well stays round, and the capacity climbs steeply across the range: the Yanco GG-707 (16 oz, 7.5") holds an individual portion, the Yanco GG-709 (36 oz, 9.5") more than doubles it, and the Yanco GG-711 (66 oz, 11.5") is a shared-table piece. At 66 oz the largest is the highest-capacity item in the pattern by a wide margin.

The rectangular bowls work on the same idea at a different scale. The GG-303 (2 oz, 3.75" x 2.5") is a condiment vessel, the GG-305 (10 oz, 5.75" x 4.25") a side, and the GG-309 (20 oz, 8.25" x 5.25") a plated course. Together with the elongated GG-804 Olive Sauce Dish (2 oz), that gives the line four small vessels in three different outlines.

Round bowls and plates

Standard bowl service runs on the Yanco GG-808 Noodle Bowl (32 oz), Yanco GG-610 Salad/Pasta Bowl (30 oz, 10"), Yanco GG-807 Salad Bowl (28 oz) and Yanco GG-608 Salad/Soup Bowl (18 oz), with the GG-806 Nappie Bowl (14 oz) and GG-805 Soup Bowl (9 oz) below. Note that the 10" GG-610 holds more than the 7" GG-807 by only 2 oz — the salad bowl is much the deeper of the two, which matters when you are matching a portion by volume rather than by rim size.

Round plates come in two profiles. The coupe GG-109 (9.125") and GG-110 (10") are flat to the edge; the deep GG-108 (8") and GG-111 (11.75") have a well. Ovals step GG-208 (8.25"), GG-210 (10.25"), GG-212 (12.25") and GG-214 (14.5"). Rectangles run GG-510 (10"), GG-512 (12"), GG-513 (13.5"), GG-514 (14.25") and GG-515 (16"), the last two in the wide and narrow proportions respectively. Beverage is limited to the GG-001 Mug (12 oz).

Green Gem belongs to a group of single-color glazed patterns in the full Yanco range that share a body.
