The grapefruit bowl is a wide, rimmed dish built for a halved citrus fruit sitting cut-face up, and six and a half inches of diameter is what a large grapefruit needs. The one-and-a-half-inch well catches juice as the segments are cut free, while the broad flat rim gives somewhere to park the spoon and the seeds.

Six ounces is the measure of the well, not of the whole piece. It serves equally for a baked apple, a poached peach or a small portion of pudding. Fully glazed bone-white chinaware on a magnesia body, packed three dozen to the case.
