Four and three-quarter inches across and an inch deep, this is the shallow fruit dish a breakfast service sets out for sliced melon, a scoop of apple sauce, cottage cheese or a small portion of fruit cocktail. The low profile is deliberate: the contents sit visible and reachable rather than banked up in a well.

It is the compact one of the two fruit bowls in Versailles, with the VS-505 carrying half an inch more diameter and three more ounces of volume. Bone white under a complete glaze, on a magnesia body that takes a commercial dish machine daily, three dozen in the case.
