Twelve by nine inches crosses into platter territory on the long axis, and it is the size a two-person shared dish wants: a whole roasted fish, a half chicken with its garnish, or a charcuterie spread for a table of four.

Nine inches of width gives genuine depth of field rather than the narrow strip some ovals offer. It is the compact one of three oval servers in Versailles, which makes it the piece that fits a crowded pass without displacing plates. Fully glazed chinaware on a magnesia body in bone white; it stacks with the VS-214 and VS-215 above it, twelve in the case.
