An inch and a quarter of depth makes the SS-222 the Sesame oval platter for anything that pools: a braise, a curry, short ribs in their sauce, roasted vegetables in their own juices, saucy pasta.

The twelve by nine outline is shared with the flat oval platter of the same dimensions, so a menu can run a dry dish and a wet dish in matching shapes down one table. A deep bed of food gives up heat more slowly than a thin one, which tells on a service that runs long. Of the two welled Sesame ovals this is the deeper, half an inch longer and half an inch deeper than the eleven and a half by eight. Twelve in a case.
