An oval suits food that is longer than it is round: a fillet, a bratwurst, a kebab, a club sandwich halved on the diagonal, a wrap with its side. The SS-209 oval plate is the Sesame piece for those, at nine and a half inches by seven and a quarter.

It is a cover piece rather than a serving piece. Nine and a half inches along the long axis falls under the ten inch line that marks off a plate from a platter here, and that is why the piece is published as an oval plate even though earlier Yanco listings put it down as a platter. Every other Sesame oval measures beyond ten inches and is named accordingly. Two dozen in a case.
