Ten and a half inches across and twelve ounces to the fill line. Those two figures together are what make this a pasta plate rather than a bowl: a true bowl of the same span takes eighteen to thirty ounces, so the volume here is going somewhere other than depth. It is going into a wide flat border with a shallow well sunk in the centre.

That border is working room. A coil of tagliatelle sits in the middle while shaved cheese, herbs or a dust of pepper goes on the flat around it, clear of the sauce. Risotto, scallops in a shallow broth and a plated grain dish all suit the same geometry.
