Yanco RO-2703 Rockeye-2 Chinaware 4-1/2" x 2-1/2" Onion Soup Crock 10 oz, White and Brown — Case of 36 (3 dz)

Four and a half inches across and two and a half tall, with the straight sides and the thick lip that define a crock. That wall thickness is doing thermal work: it comes out of a broiler holding a cap of melted gruyere and stays hot at the table long enough for the last spoonful of onion soup to still be worth eating.

The straight profile also lets a crouton sit flat across the mouth, which is how the soup is assembled before it goes under heat. Chinaware tolerates the thermal step from oven to table; the smooth interior glaze lets a baked-on cheese edge release in the wash. At four and a half inches it takes little shelf depth, so a line can keep a case within reach. It is the only crock in the collection. Dishwasher safe and microwave safe.
