Six and a half inches by five, an inch and a half at the wall, seven ounces of volume, with an ear cast into the body. The ear is the point: it gives a cook somewhere to put a thumb through a folded cloth when the dish comes out hot, and it gives a server a handle that is part of the china rather than an attachment that can loosen.

Use it for a baked starter, an escargot portion, a small gratin, anything that goes from oven to table in one vessel. Chinaware takes a hot box and a broiler shelf; the smooth interior glaze releases a browned crust without a scrape. The name keeps the word dish in front because a flat-floored, low-walled baking vessel is what this is. It is the only piece in Rockeye-2 built with ears. Dishwasher safe and microwave safe.
