Three and a half ounces in a five and an eighth inch dish makes the PT-305 a wide, shallow fruit bowl rather than a deep one: cut melon, apple sauce, a scoop of sherbet, or a fruit side spread where it can be seen.

That width gives a plating surface a small deep vessel cannot. Among the Pine Tree bowls this is a fruit course portion and not a meal portion, which is exactly why it is specified at three and a half ounces.
