Yanco calls this a dessert plate, but at two and an eighth inches of rise and ten ounces of capacity it behaves more like a shallow bowl with a wide flange — precisely what you want under a scoop of ice cream that is going to melt, or a poached pear in syrup. The nine and a half inch width leaves a frame of empty porcelain around a small sweet, the trick that makes a two-scoop portion look composed. Ten ounces is modest by design. Twelve to a carton. It is the smaller of the two dessert plates; the eleven and five-eighths inch version takes six ounces more.
