A pipkin is a small handled pot, and the PIP-2 is the condiment-sized one: a 2-1/2 inch dish, 1-1/4 inches tall, two ounces to the brim, with a stub handle on the side. Two ounces is a dipping portion — aioli, drawn butter, a side of syrup, a tasting pour of soup — and the handle means it can be lifted off a crowded board without touching the contents.

It is thrown in Yanco's American white body, so it warms to the same tone as the diner china it usually sits beside rather than reading stark against it. Four dozen arrive in a carton, about the right depth of stock for something that leaves with every ticket and comes back sticky. Oven safe as well as dish machine safe, so warm butter and cold sauces can run in the same shape.
