The two-tone cut of Yanco's 12 ounce onion soup crock: brown outside, yellow inside, 4-1/4 inches across and 2-1/4 inches deep. The pale interior gives the soup and the cheese cap something to read against, so a dark broth looks like broth rather than a hole in the table, while the brown shell keeps the outside looking clean between washes.

Like its single-colour siblings it is built for direct heat — a cheese cap browned under a salamander, then straight onto an underliner. Twelve ounces is the standard appetizer pour of French onion. Two dozen come in a carton. Rooms that want a warmer look on the table often run the two-tone crocks out front and keep the plain brown OS-12-B as backup stock.
