Fourteen ounces of soup in a 5-1/2 inch bowl: miso, a clear broth, or a light noodle service without the contents reaching the rim. The wall is drawn up steeply so volume sits in the depth rather than the span, which holds heat longer than a wide shallow body would.

Five dozen to a case. This is the dedicated soup form in Osaka, with more capacity than either rice bowl and a profile a diner can lift two-handed. Melamine's low thermal conductivity earns its place here, since the body can hold a hot broth and still be picked up by the rim, which is not true of thin china. White, dishwasher safe.
