A 9-3/4 inch round holding 57 ounces sits in the gap between pasta service and serving ware, and in practice this bowl gets used as both. One kitchen will send a shareable main out in it; another will fill it with dressed greens and set it in the middle of the table. Three inches of depth is enough for either job.

Because melamine does not conduct heat the way metal does, one filled with ice for a chilled display will not sweat onto a tablecloth as quickly as a steel equivalent would. In white it also works as a neutral riser in a buffet arrangement where the coloured pieces carry the accent.
