Tan works where ramekins sit out on a table as part of the setting rather than arriving with a dish. Melamine is the right material for something this small and this frequently handled: it will not chip at the rim, it survives being tipped into a bus tub from a height, and it comes back from the dishwasher without the crazing that makes old ceramic ramekins look grubby.
