Nine and a quarter inches across with an inch and seven eighths of wall and ten ounces of capacity. Yanco calls this a dessert plate and the geometry explains why: it is a plate footprint with just enough rise at the edge to hold syrup, cream or a melting scoop in place, which a flat plate will not do and a bowl does at the cost of hiding the plating.

Ten ounces is a single dessert portion with sauce, or a starter of marinated vegetables, or a small pasta course. The white field is the conventional background for a plated sweet, where contrast with the food carries the presentation. Within Nature Art this is the smaller of the two deep plates — the eleven-and-a-half-inch piece runs to sixteen ounces and takes a composed dessert for sharing.
