A rim soup is a plate, not a bowl: a wide flat border with a shallow well sunk into the middle. The MM-3 measures 9" overall and 1-1/2" from table to rim, taking 10 ounces to a sensible fill line, a starter portion rather than a meal in a bowl.

The border is what the form is for. A server carries it without touching the soup, a crouton or a bread crisp balances on it, and the plate stacks flat in a rack where a round-bottomed bowl rocks. Miami also offers the squared version, the 9" MM-309, at the same nominal size.
