An inch of extra width over the 6-inch ML-106 changes what the piece does: 49 square inches of face against 36, which is the step from bread service to a side plate that can hold a composed salad or a sandwich half with slaw. It still sits an inch under the 8-inch ML-108, so the three read as a graded set rather than as repeats of one size, and a kitchen can move a dish up or down a width without changing pattern.
