Nine and a half inches is the size most dining rooms treat as the everyday entree round. It gives a protein, a starch and a vegetable room to sit apart without crowding, and two of them still fit across a standard four-top without the covers touching.

A full inch of wall keeps a loose sauce from reaching the edge, which the seven-inch round cannot do at half that depth. Of the five Milando rounds it is the second smallest, with one plate below it and three wider diameters above, and it carries the same case count as the ten-and-a-half-inch round.
