A shallow oval with a soft rolled edge rather than a defined rim: the LY-405BU side dish is profiled to be looked into from above, and the glaze is laid down to suit. Colour is even across the small floor and lifts right at the lip, where it thins to a pale outline that traces the oval.

Olives, cornichons, a curl of butter with sea salt — small pale or dark items read cleanly on an uncluttered blue field at this scale. Because the walls are low, the side dish still shows nearly all of its interior colour when loaded, so the piece stays part of the table's palette.
