The DFHC-10 is a small handled casserole: a four-and-three-quarter-inch round body with a flat lug handle that brings the overall length to seven inches. Ten ounces is one portion, which covers a baked onion soup, a cassolette, a hot crab dip, or a single-serve pot pie under a pastry lid.

The handle is the design decision worth noting. It stays cooler than the body, it gives a server a grip that is not the hot rim, and it lets the casserole be set down at an angle on an underliner with a napkin. American white chinaware takes oven heat and dishwasher cycles. Three dozen in a case.
