The ten-inch version of Black Pearl's divided plate gives each of its two wells roughly half again the floor of the eight-inch, which is the difference between a dumpling portion and a plated entree with a separate side. Ten by five and a half is still a long, narrow form, so it lines up on a counter or a buffet rail without the overhang a round of equal capacity would create.

Because the compartments are formed in one piece, there is no seam along the divider to scrub and the plate washes as one surface. Matte black melamine gives light-colored food — rice, fish, dumpling wrappers — a clean edge, and the surface takes knife contact without showing a bright scar.
