At eleven inches on a side this piece passes the ten-inch line, so it is a square platter rather than a plate: it is carried to the table and served from, not set in front of one diner. A hundred and twenty-one square inches of matte black face is enough for a shared appetizer board or a family-style vegetable dish.

The one-inch wall keeps the geometry useful for wet food as well as dry — a square platter with no edge spills the moment it tilts. Eleven inches is also the span that still slides into a standard dish rack, which the 12" and up do not always manage.
