Teal reads coastal, and that is largely where this 7-1/2 inch round ends up: ceviche, a half dozen oysters on ice chips, a crab cake with remoulade beside it. The black exterior stops the colour tipping over into novelty, which matters when a room has to look the same at lunch as it does at night.

Seven and a half inches gives a starter room to breathe without swallowing it, and the 7/8 inch wall is shallow enough that a diner can get a fork under the last bite. Yanco builds Birmingham from melamine, so the plate survives the tub, the rack and the shelf in a way ceramic of the same weight will not.
