A 3-1/2 inch round sauce dish holding 5 ounces, BA-403 is the soy, ponzu and dipping-sauce piece of the pattern. Five ounces is half what the BA-404 rice bowl takes, which is about the right ratio when one dish handles a single diner's condiments for a whole meal.

Two inches of wall depth keeps a thin sauce from slopping over when the dish travels with the plate. These go out in quantity and come back in quantity, so four dozen to a case is the realistic pack size; melamine absorbs the handling that volume implies without chipping at the foot.
