A masala dabba (also called an Indian spice box or spice tin) is the organizing heart of every Indian restaurant kitchen. Instead of reaching for individual jars and containers during service, a chef can open one masala dabba and have every essential spice measured, visible, and within arm's reach. Our commercial masala dabbas are built for restaurant-scale production, with stainless steel construction, removable inner containers, full-size lids to seal in freshness, and side handles for carrying between stations or to catering events.
Choose by Size and Compartment Count
We carry four configurations to match different kitchen sizes and spice volumes. For smaller kitchens or restaurants that keep a tight core spice lineup, our 9-compartment masala dabbas are available with 32 oz inner containers ($79.99) or 115 oz inner containers ($150). For kitchens that use a wider range of spices or need higher capacity per spice, our 12-compartment masala dabbas come with 32 oz inner containers ($90) or 115 oz inner containers ($175). The 32 oz size works well for spices you use in smaller quantities like cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon, while the 115 oz containers are better for high-turnover spices like turmeric, cumin, coriander, and chili powder that get refilled frequently during busy service.
Why Commercial Masala Dabbas Are Different from Home Versions
Home masala dabbas are typically small round tins with 7 compartments, designed to hold enough spice for a few meals. Our commercial spice boxes are square, made from heavier gauge stainless steel, and hold significantly more volume per compartment. The square shape is intentional, it fits more efficiently on countertops and prep stations without wasting space. The removable inner boxes make cleaning and refilling fast, and the full-size lid keeps moisture, light, and air out, which are the three things that cause spices to lose their color, aroma, and potency.
An Essential Piece of Indian Kitchen Equipment
Every Indian restaurant depends on consistent spice balance across every dish, every shift. A well-organized masala dabba helps chefs maintain that consistency by keeping measured portions of key spices visible and accessible, eliminating the time lost searching through cluttered shelves during peak service.
