Six and a half inches is the side-plate size: a salad alongside an entree, a dessert that is not a full plated course, a shared appetiser. It is an inch wider than the NS-105 bread plate and carries the same half-inch depth, so the gain is all usable surface rather than extra well.

Green is used here for the same reason it is used on the smaller round - to mark a line. Salad stations in particular tend to get their own colour, and this is the plate salad is served on. The flat melamine body means a stack of these does not wedge together when wet, which is a real problem with deep-welled ceramic side plates coming off a rack.
