A coffee dabra (also spelled dabara or davara) is a traditional South Indian vessel used for mixing and serving filter coffee. It consists of two components:
- Tumbler – A stainless steel or brass cup in which the coffee is served.
- Dabra (Davara) – A wide-bottomed container or saucer used for cooling and mixing the coffee.
Purpose & Usage:
- After brewing South Indian filter coffee, the decoction is mixed with hot milk and sugar.
- The coffee is poured back and forth between the tumbler and dabra multiple times.
- This aerates the coffee, creating a frothy texture and enhancing its aroma and taste.
- The wide dabra also helps in cooling the coffee to a drinkable temperature.
The frothy, aromatic filter coffee served in a tumbler-dabra set is an experience cherished by coffee lovers.
